Democratic backsliding, concentration of power, and the capture of public interests demonstrate that power pathologies affect not only political institutions but also social trust, collective memory, and citizens’ capacity for collective action. However, studies of Gabriel García Márquez have predominantly examined magical realism through historical, political, and postcolonial perspectives, while the relationship between literary representation, social capital erosion, collective memory manipulation, and power capture has received limited conceptual attention. This study aims to analyze the representation of social capital erosion, collective memory manipulation, and power capture in One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Autumn of the Patriarch, and to formulate their philosophical implications for civic life and public interests. The study employs a qualitative approach with Gadamerian philosophical hermeneutics through textual analysis of both novels, supported by literature on social capital, collective memory, power, oligarchy, commons, and public goods. The findings show that soledad represents social capital erosion, the erasure of memory represents collective memory manipulation, while the Patriarch represents power concentration and the subordination of public interests. The study concludes that these three dimensions are interconnected and generate a conceptual framework of bottom-up social capital emphasizing collective memory restoration, civic network strengthening, and public interest protection.

Kemunduran demokrasi, konsentrasi kekuasaan, dan pembajakan kepentingan publik menunjukkan bahwa patologi kekuasaan tidak hanya berdampak pada institusi politik, tetapi juga pada kepercayaan sosial, memori kolektif, dan kapasitas masyarakat untuk bertindak secara kolektif. Namun, kajian mengenai Gabriel García Márquez selama ini lebih banyak menempatkan realisme magis dalam kerangka sejarah, politik, dan pengalaman pascakolonial, sementara keterkaitan antara representasi sastra, erosi modal sosial, manipulasi memori kolektif, dan pembajakan kekuasaan belum banyak dirumuskan sebagai hubungan konseptual yang terpadu. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis representasi erosi modal sosial, manipulasi memori kolektif, dan pembajakan kekuasaan dalam Cien Años de Soledad dan El Otoño del Patriarca, serta merumuskan implikasi filosofisnya bagi kehidupan kewargaan dan kepentingan publik. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain hermeneutik-filosofis Gadamer melalui analisis tekstual terhadap kedua novel, didukung kajian literatur mengenai modal sosial, memori kolektif, kekuasaan, oligarki, commons, dan public goods. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa soledad merepresentasikan erosi modal sosial, penghapusan ingatan merepresentasikan manipulasi memori kolektif, sedangkan figur Patriark merepresentasikan konsentrasi kekuasaan dan subordinasi kepentingan publik. Penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa ketiga persoalan tersebut saling berkaitan dan menghasilkan kerangka konseptual bottom-up social capital yang menekankan pemulihan memori kolektif, penguatan jaringan kewargaan, dan perlindungan kepentingan publik.
