Abstract

ABSTRACT

Buffer solution is a topic in Grade XI Phase F chemistry that requires students to connect acid–base and chemical equilibrium concepts with pH calculation procedures. The initial condition at SMAN 8 Padang indicated that 57.5% of students had not yet achieved the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP), indicating the need for a more adaptive learning experience. This study examined the use of a buffer solution e-module based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) integrated with Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes. The study was conducted in May 2026 using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, involving 36 students from class XI F9 as the experimental group and 36 students from class XI F7 as the control group, selected through purposive sampling. Following the pretest, each class received instruction according to its respective treatment and completed a posttest consisting of 15 objective items. The data were analyzed using N-gain and an independent sample t-test. The experimental group’s mean score increased from 27.59 to 78.70, with an N-gain of 0.714 (high), while the control group increased from 28.15 to 64.63, with an N-gain of 0.505 (moderate). The independent sample t-test value of 5.79 confirmed a significant difference in learning gains, with stronger achievement in the group using the PBL-based e-module integrated with TaRL. These findings position the integration of digital learning materials, problem solving, and adjustment to students’ initial abilities as an effective approach to strengthening cognitive learning outcomes in buffer solution instruction.

ABSTRAK

Materi larutan penyangga pada kelas XI Fase F SMA menuntut murid menghubungkan konsep asam-basa dan kesetimbangan kimia dengan prosedur perhitungan pH. Kondisi awal di SMAN 8 Padang memperlihatkan bahwa 57,5% murid belum mencapai Kriteria Ketercapaian Tujuan Pembelajaran (KKTP), sehingga diperlukan pengalaman belajar yang lebih adaptif. Penelitian ini menguji penggunaan e-modul larutan penyangga berbasis Problem-Based Learning (PBL) yang dipadukan dengan Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Mei 2026 menggunakan quasi experimental dengan non-equivalent control group design, melibatkan 36 murid XI F 9 sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan 36 murid XI F 7 sebagai kelompok kontrol melalui purposive sampling. Setelah pretest, masing-masing kelas mengikuti pembelajaran sesuai perlakuannya dan diakhiri posttest menggunakan tes objektif 15 butir. Data dianalisis melalui N-gain dan independent sample t-test. Rata-rata kelas eksperimen meningkat dari 27,59 menjadi 78,70 dengan N-gain 0,714 (tinggi), sedangkan kontrol berubah dari 28,15 menjadi 64,63 dengan N-gain 0,505 (sedang). Nilai independent sample t-test sebesar 5,79 menegaskan bahwa peningkatan kedua kelas berbeda secara signifikan, dengan capaian lebih kuat pada kelompok yang menggunakan e-modul PBL terintegrasi TaRL. Temuan ini menempatkan integrasi bahan ajar digital, pemecahan masalah, dan penyesuaian kemampuan awal sebagai pendekatan yang efektif untuk memperkuat hasil belajar kognitif pada materi larutan penyangga.
