Abstract

Curriculum is a central element in the education system that determines the direction, content, and process of learning. However, in practice, there remains a significant gap between the ideal curriculum and its actual implementation in the field. Curricula are often not adaptive to the changing times, the diverse needs of learners, and the dynamic demands of a globalized world. This study aims to examine various conceptual models, designs, approaches, and curriculum development models through a literature review method. The research involved analyzing scholarly sources such as journal articles, academic books, and official educational policy documents published in the last ten years. Data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method with a thematic approach. The findings indicate that various curriculum development models—such as those by Tyler, Taba, and Bruner—and constructivist approaches are increasingly relevant to contemporary educational contexts. Furthermore, the integration of a strong conceptual model, learner-centered design, and participatory-reflective approaches emerges as essential in creating an adaptive and contextually responsive curriculum. This study concludes that effective curriculum development must be based on an integrative framework that bridges theory and practice, while also allowing room for future development through implementation trials at the institutional level. The results of this study are expected to contribute both theoretically and practically to curriculum policy formulation and educator capacity development in the era of transformative education.
