ABSTRACT
Geography learning on atmospheric topics presents particular challenges because the concepts involved are often abstract and require students to analyze various environmental phenomena. In practice, learning processes that are still dominated by conventional instructional methods frequently provide limited opportunities for students to develop problem-solving skills. In response to this condition, this study explored the use of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model integrated with an atmospheric pop-up book as a more contextual and participatory learning alternative. The study was conducted with students of classes X E 10 and X E 11 at SMA Negeri 12 Semarang using a quasi-experimental design. The two classes were assigned as the experimental group and the comparison group. Changes in students' abilities were measured through pretest and posttest results and subsequently analyzed using the Independent Sample t-Test and N-Gain calculations with the assistance of SPSS 24.0. The analysis revealed a significant difference in problem-solving ability between the two groups, as indicated by a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The level of improvement in the class receiving PjBL instruction was also higher, with an average N-Gain score of 0.77 in the high category, whereas the comparison class achieved an average N-Gain score of 0.64 in the moderate category. These findings indicate that the implementation of Project-Based Learning supported by an atmospheric pop-up book makes a positive contribution to strengthening students’ problem-solving skills in Geography learning.
