Abstract

ABSTRACT

The implementation of Learning Management Systems (LMS) has become an essential component of higher education learning; however, the effectiveness of student engagement and its relationship with learning outcomes requires further data-driven evaluation. This study aimed to analyze the level of student engagement in using Moodle LMS and examine the relationship between LMS learning activities and academic achievement. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design was employed. The participants were 44 students from the Actuarial Science Program at Darunnajah University who attended courses through Moodle LMS. Student engagement data were obtained from Moodle activity logs, including login frequency, learning material access, assignment submission, quiz completion, and participation in discussion forums, while learning outcomes were measured using final course grades. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. The findings revealed that students demonstrated a moderate level of engagement, with an average engagement score of 66.70, and learning material access and system login were the most frequently performed activities. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a very strong and statistically significant positive relationship between Moodle LMS activities and students' final grades (r = 0.82, p < 0.001). These findings suggest that higher student engagement in Moodle LMS is associated with better academic performance. Therefore, LMS activity data can serve as a valuable foundation for implementing learning analytics to monitor student engagement and support evidence-based decision-making for improving the quality of higher education learning.

ABSTRAK

Pemanfaatan Learning Management System (LMS) menjadi bagian penting dalam penyelenggaraan pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi, namun efektivitas keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam penggunaan LMS serta hubungannya dengan hasil belajar masih memerlukan evaluasi berbasis data. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis tingkat keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam penggunaan LMS Moodle dan hubungan aktivitas pembelajaran pada LMS dengan hasil belajar. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif korelasional. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas 44 mahasiswa Program Studi Sains Aktuaria Universitas Darunnajah yang mengikuti perkuliahan melalui LMS Moodle. Data keterlibatan diperoleh dari log aktivitas Moodle yang meliputi login, akses materi, pengumpulan tugas, pengerjaan kuis, dan partisipasi dalam forum diskusi, sedangkan hasil belajar diukur menggunakan nilai akhir mata kuliah. Analisis data dilakukan melalui statistik deskriptif dan uji korelasi Pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat keterlibatan mahasiswa berada pada kategori sedang dengan rata-rata skor 66,70, di mana aktivitas yang paling dominan adalah akses materi pembelajaran dan login ke sistem. Hasil uji korelasi menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang sangat kuat dan signifikan antara aktivitas mahasiswa pada LMS Moodle dengan hasil belajar (r = 0,82; p < 0,001). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam memanfaatkan LMS Moodle, semakin baik pula capaian hasil belajarnya. Oleh karena itu, data aktivitas pada LMS berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai dasar penerapan learning analytics untuk memantau keterlibatan mahasiswa serta mendukung pengambilan keputusan dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi.
