Abstract

ABSTRACT

Art therapy is a therapeutic approach that integrates artistic activities with psychological processes to help individuals express and manage emotions. Anger in students often arises as an emotional response to situations perceived as disturbing or uncomfortable, thus requiring appropriate interventions through guidance and counseling services. This study aims to determine the effect of art therapy techniques on anger among eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Praya in the 2022/2023 academic year. The study employed a one-group pre-test–post-test design. The population consisted of 64 eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Praya, while the sample included 7 students who demonstrated high levels of anger based on the pre-test results, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires as the primary method, supported by observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using a t-test to compare students’ anger scores before and after the implementation of art therapy. The results showed that the calculated t-value of 6.687 was higher than the t-table value at the 5% significance level of 2.447, indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These findings indicate that the application of art therapy techniques effectively helps students express emotions more positively and reduces their levels of anger. The implication of this study suggests that art therapy can be utilized as an alternative strategy within school guidance and counseling services to support students in developing more adaptive emotional regulation.

ABSTRAK

Art therapy merupakan pendekatan terapi yang menggabungkan aktivitas seni dengan proses psikologis untuk membantu individu mengekspresikan dan mengelola emosi. Emosi marah pada siswa sering muncul sebagai respons terhadap situasi yang dianggap mengganggu atau menimbulkan ketidaknyamanan sehingga perlu penanganan yang tepat melalui layanan bimbingan dan konseling. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik art therapy terhadap emosi marah pada siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 5 Praya Tahun Pelajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian menggunakan desain one group pre-test–post-test. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 64 siswa kelas VIII SMPN 5 Praya, sedangkan sampel penelitian berjumlah 7 siswa yang memiliki tingkat emosi marah tinggi berdasarkan hasil pre-test dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan angket sebagai metode utama serta observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi sebagai metode pendukung. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji t untuk membandingkan skor emosi marah sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan art therapy. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai t hitung sebesar 6,687 lebih besar dibandingkan nilai t tabel pada taraf signifikansi 5% sebesar 2,447 sehingga hipotesis alternatif diterima. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik art therapy efektif dalam membantu siswa mengekspresikan emosi secara lebih positif dan menurunkan tingkat emosi marah yang dialami. Implikasi penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa art therapy dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai strategi layanan bimbingan dan konseling di sekolah untuk membantu siswa mengembangkan pengelolaan emosi yang lebih adaptif.
