Abstract

The Introduction to Schooling Field Program (PLP) aims to prepare students as prospective teachers through practical experience in schools. However, the high duration and demands of PLP have the potential to cause mental fatigue which can affect students' career readiness. This research aims to analyze the influence of self-regulated learning (SRL) on career readiness for the teaching profession by mediating mental fatigue in Economics Education students at Surabaya State University after PLP. The research used an ex post facto quantitative approach with a sample of 143 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data analysis was carried out using PROCESS Macro Hayes Model 4 with bootstrapping techniques and strengthened through in-depth interviews. The research results show that SRL has a positive and significant effect on teacher professional career readiness. However, SRL did not have a significant effect on mental fatigue. Mental fatigue is proven to have a significant effect on career readiness for the teaching profession, but does not mediate the relationship between SRL and career readiness. Interview findings show that mental fatigue is more influenced by external factors during PLP than students' self-regulation abilities. This research concludes that SRL and mental fatigue work independently in influencing teachers' professional career readiness.
