Abstract

Introducing agricultural literacy during early childhood is important for helping children understand food sources, plant growth processes, and the relationship between humans and the environment. However, learning activities that directly introduce agricultural concepts are still limited in early childhood education settings. This study aimed to describe the development of agricultural literacy among young children through the use of an educational garden as a learning medium. The research was conducted at TK Angkasa Lanud Iswahjudi Maospati, Magetan Regency, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Research participants included the principal, Group B teacher, and Group B children. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing procedures. The findings indicated that gardening activities provided opportunities for children to recognize various plant species, understand factors influencing plant growth, and observe changes occurring throughout the growth process. Children's involvement in planting, watering, maintaining, and harvesting activities encouraged active participation in learning. In addition to improving agricultural knowledge, these activities supported the development of motor skills, social interaction, cooperation, and environmental awareness. The study concludes that educational gardens can serve as meaningful contextual learning media to support the development of agricultural literacy in early childhood education.
