ABSTRACT
Social media has become a space in which Generation Z develops impressions of themselves while responding to how others perceive them. Within an environment that allows users to select and manage what they choose to display, digital narcissism may be associated with how individuals engage in self-presentation. This study examines the relationship between these two aspects among Generation Z social media users using a quantitative correlational approach. A total of 271 participants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16 (NPI-16) to assess digital narcissism and the Presentation of Online Self Scale (POSS) to assess self-presentation. Since the data for both variables were not normally distributed, their relationship was analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation. The analysis yielded a correlation coefficient of r = 0.579 with p < 0.001, indicating a positive and significant relationship with a moderate strength. This pattern suggests that higher levels of digital narcissism are associated with higher levels of self-presentation. The findings are not intended to establish a causal relationship but rather to illustrate the association between psychological characteristics and how individuals manage their self-image within digital environments.
ABSTRAK
Media sosial menjadi salah satu ruang tempat Generasi Z membentuk kesan tentang dirinya sekaligus merespons cara orang lain memandang dirinya.
