ABSTRACT
The increasing intensity of social media use among university students has amplified the need for digital feedback, which often leads to psychological pressure, digital fatigue, and a tendency to withdraw temporarily from online environments. This self-regulatory response is reflected in digital disconnection behaviors, which function as a strategy to maintain psychological balance amid constant digital engagement. This study aims to examine the relationship between the need for social media feedback and digital disconnection behaviors among university students. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. A total of 255 university students participated as respondents through purposive sampling. Data were collected using online questionnaires measuring the need for social media feedback and digital disconnection behaviors. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman’s correlation test alongside a linearity assessment to identify the directional pattern between the variables. The results indicate a significant positive relationship (r = 0,305; p < 0,01) between the need for social media feedback and digital disconnection. Higher levels of digital feedback seeking were associated with a stronger tendency to engage in disconnection as a means of reducing psychological distress and restoring self-control. The relationship between the variables demonstrated a stable and linear pattern. In conclusion, the need for social media feedback plays a substantial role in shaping digital disconnection tendencies among university students. These findings highlight the importance of digital literacy, self-regulation skills, and healthier social media usage strategies in supporting student well-being within increasingly connected digital environments.
ABSTRAK
Penggunaan media sosial yang intensif pada mahasiswa sering kali memunculkan kebutuhan tinggi akan umpan balik digital, yang dapat menimbulkan tekanan psikologis dan kelelahan digital sehingga mendorong individu untuk mengambil jarak dari aktivitas daring. Salah satu strategi yang muncul adalah perilaku disoneksi digital sebagai bentuk regulasi diri terhadap potensi dampak negatif penggunaan media sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kebutuhan umpan balik media sosial dengan perilaku disoneksi digital pada mahasiswa pengguna media sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sebanyak 255 mahasiswa pengguna media sosial berpartisipasi sebagai responden melalui metode purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner daring yang terdiri dari skala kebutuhan umpan balik media sosial dan skala perilaku disoneksi digital. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman serta uji linearitas untuk melihat pola keterkaitan antarvariabel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif (r = 0,305; p < 0,01) yang signifikan antara kebutuhan umpan balik media sosial dan perilaku disoneksi digital. Maka, semakin tinggi kebutuhan individu untuk memperoleh validasi dan respons digital, semakin besar kecenderungan mereka untuk melakukan disoneksi sebagai upaya mengurangi tekanan dan memulihkan kendali diri. Pola hubungan yang ditemukan bersifat linear dan stabil. Kesimpulannya, kebutuhan umpan balik media sosial berperan dalam membentuk kecenderungan mahasiswa untuk melakukan digital disoneksi. Implikasi penelitian menekankan pentingnya literasi digital, kemampuan regulasi diri, serta strategi penggunaan media sosial yang lebih sehat bagi mahasiswa di era konektivitas digital yang semakin intensif.
