Abstract

Online dating apps are one of the platforms individuals use to find partners and build interpersonal relationships. While using them, individuals may experience various forms of rejection, such as not getting a match, not receiving a response, unmatching, ghosting, or blocking. This study aims to examine the relationship between rejection sensitivity and self-esteem among online dating app users. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 402 online dating app users aged 18–24, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (RSQ) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The results revealed a significant negative relationship between rejection sensitivity and self-esteem among online dating app users (r = -0.512; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that higher rejection sensitivity is associated with lower self-esteem, while lower rejection sensitivity is associated with higher self-esteem. This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of psychological factors related to self-esteem among online dating app users.
