PERAN INTERPERSONAL TRUST DAN SELF-ESTEEM DALAM MEMBENTUK PERILAKU SELF-DISCLOSURE GEN Z DI SECOND ACCOUNT INSTAGRAM

ABSTRACT
The increasing use of secondary Instagram accounts among Generation Z has created an alternative space for more personal, private, and authentic self-expression compared to primary accounts. Secondary accounts enable users to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a more limited social circle, thereby encouraging self-disclosure. In this context, psychological factors such as interpersonal trust and self-esteem are believed to play important roles in influencing individuals’ willingness to disclose personal information on social media. This study aimed to examine the effects of interpersonal trust and self-esteem on self-disclosure among Generation Z users of secondary Instagram accounts. A quantitative approach with a causal associative design was employed. The participants consisted of Generation Z individuals aged 18–29 years who owned more than one Instagram account. Data were collected using instruments measuring interpersonal trust, self-esteem, and self-disclosure and were analyzed through multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that interpersonal trust had a positive effect on self-disclosure, indicating that individuals with higher levels of trust were more likely to share personal information through their secondary Instagram accounts. Self-esteem was also found to positively influence self-disclosure, suggesting that individuals with a more positive self-evaluation tended to express their thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences more openly. Furthermore, self-esteem demonstrated a stronger influence on self-disclosure than interpersonal trust. Taken together, both variables contributed to explaining self-disclosure behavior among secondary Instagram account users. These findings highlight that self-disclosure on social media is shaped by both social and personal factors. Therefore, strengthening interpersonal trust and fostering positive self-esteem are important for promoting healthier and more constructive social media engagement among Generation Z.
ABSTRAK
Penggunaan second account Instagram di kalangan Generasi Z semakin meningkat sebagai ruang alternatif untuk mengekspresikan diri secara lebih personal, privat, dan autentik dibandingkan akun utama. Kehadiran akun kedua memungkinkan pengguna untuk berbagi pikiran, perasaan, dan pengalaman kepada lingkaran sosial yang lebih terbatas sehingga mendorong terjadinya self-disclosure. Dalam konteks ini, faktor psikologis seperti interpersonal trust dan self-esteem diduga berperan penting dalam memengaruhi kecenderungan individu untuk mengungkapkan informasi pribadi di media sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh interpersonal trust dan self-esteem terhadap self-disclosure pada pengguna second account Instagram dari Generasi Z. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain asosiatif kausal. Partisipan penelitian terdiri atas individu Generasi Z berusia 18–29 tahun yang memiliki lebih dari satu akun Instagram. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan instrumen yang mengukur interpersonal trust, self-esteem, dan self-disclosure, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interpersonal trust berpengaruh positif terhadap self-disclosure, yang mengindikasikan bahwa individu dengan tingkat kepercayaan yang lebih tinggi cenderung lebih terbuka dalam membagikan informasi pribadi melalui second account Instagram. Self-esteem juga berpengaruh positif terhadap self-disclosure, menunjukkan bahwa individu dengan penilaian diri yang lebih positif lebih mudah mengekspresikan pikiran, perasaan, dan pengalaman pribadinya. Selain itu, self-esteem ditemukan memiliki pengaruh yang lebih kuat dibandingkan interpersonal trust. Secara bersama-sama, kedua variabel tersebut berkontribusi dalam menjelaskan perilaku self-disclosure pada pengguna second account Instagram. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa perilaku pengungkapan diri di media sosial dipengaruhi oleh faktor sosial dan personal. Oleh karena itu, penguatan kepercayaan interpersonal dan harga diri positif penting untuk mendukung penggunaan media sosial yang sehat dan konstruktif pada Generasi Z.
