ABSTRACT
Few studies have explored the dyadic experiences of Brimob personnel and their spouses in building relational resilience when facing high-risk assignments. This study aims to understand how family harmony helps personnel of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) of the Indonesian National Police cope with work pressure, distance from family, and uncertainty during deployment. This study employed a qualitative approach with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design. The participants consisted of four married couples, including four Brimob personnel and their spouses, who were selected purposively based on their experience of high-risk operational assignments. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed systematically to identify patterns of meaning in the participants’ experiences. The findings revealed three main themes. First, the family served as a safe space for personnel to recover, release the pressure of their operational role, and return to their roles as spouses and parents. Second, calm, empathic, and mutually understanding communication helped reduce psychological burden during deployment. Third, spiritual meaning-making of duty enabled families to better accept risk, distance, and uncertainty as part of shared service. These findings indicate that family harmony functions as a mechanism of relational resilience that is jointly constructed by personnel and their spouses. The study highlights the importance of family-based mental health support to strengthen the well-being of Brimob personnel.
