ETNOPEDAGOGI BAKAR BATU: MENGINTEGRASIKAN PENDIDIKAN DAN BUDAYA LOKAL DI WAMENA

The Bakar Batu tradition in Wamena, Highland Papua, is a cultural heritage rich in social, cultural, and philosophical values. Beyond serving as a ritual for cooking food, this tradition teaches values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and harmony with nature. The purpose of this study is to examine the potential of the Bakar Batu tradition in Wamena, Highland Papua, as an ethnopedagogical learning medium, and to understand how this tradition can be integrated into the formal education system in order to strengthen cultural identity and enhance the relevance of education for the younger generation. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The location of the study is Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua Province. The technique used to select research subjects was purposive sampling, with triangulation methods employed to enhance the validity and reliability of the data. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the Bakar Batu tradition contains social and cultural values that can be adapted into education, such as togetherness, mutual cooperation, and environmental balance. In addition, this tradition can serve as a learning medium to explain academic concepts, such as principles of physics and social collaboration. This study provides a foundation for integrating the Bakar Batu tradition into formal education, strengthening local cultural identity while enhancing the relevance of learning for students, and contributing to cultural preservation amid modernization. However, the limitation of a literature-based approach restricts the collection of direct empirical data; therefore, the validity and generalizability of its application in other contexts require further research.
ABSTRAK
Tradisi Bakar Batu di Wamena, Papua Pegunungan, merupakan salah satu warisan budaya yang kaya akan nilai sosial, budaya, dan filosofis. Selain sebagai ritual memasak makanan, tradisi ini mengajarkan nilai-nilai kebersamaan, gotong royong, dan keseimbangan dengan alam. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji potensi tradisi Bakar Batu di Wamena, Papua Pegunungan, sebagai media pembelajaran berbasis etnopedagogi, serta untuk memahami bagaimana tradisi ini dapat diintegrasikan dalam sistem pendidikan formal guna memperkuat identitas budaya dan meningkatkan relevansi pendidikan bagi generasi muda. Penelitian ini Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kulitatif deskriptif. Lokasi dalam penelitian ini adalah Wamena Kabupaten Jayawijaya, Provinsi Papua Pegunungan. Adapun teknik untuk memilih subjek penelitian menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan Metode triangulasi yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan validitas dan keandalan data. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Bakar Batu mengandung nilai-nilai sosial dan budaya yang dapat diadaptasi dalam pendidikan, seperti kebersamaan, gotong royong, dan keseimbangan alam. Selain itu, tradisi ini dapat dijadikan sarana pembelajaran untuk menjelaskan konsep-konsep akademis, seperti prinsip fisika dan kerja sama sosial. Penelitian ini memberikan dasar untuk mengintegrasikan tradisi Bakar Batu ke dalam pendidikan formal, memperkuat identitas budaya lokal sekaligus meningkatkan relevansi pembelajaran bagi siswa, serta berkontribusi pada pelestarian budaya di tengah modernisasi. Namun, keterbatasan pada pendekatan studi kepustakaan membatasi pengumpulan data empiris langsung, sehingga validitas dan generalisasi penerapan dalam konteks lain memerlukan penelitian lebih lanjut.
