Reading comprehension is an essential competence in learning German as a foreign language. Through reading proficiency, students are expected to acquire factual information, comprehend linguistic context, and interpret texts accurately. However, secondary school students' reading abilities have not developed optimally due to the lack of interactive instructional media and limited active engagement during classroom activities. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the ZEP Quiz media in improving the German reading comprehension of eleventh-grade students at SMA PGII 2 Bandung. A quantitative approach employing a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design was applied. The research participants consisted of 46 students divided into an experimental group (22 students) and a control group (24 students). Data were gathered through pretest and posttest reading comprehension tests focusing on the topic of Kleidung, complemented by validated student response questionnaires. The inferential analysis using the Mann–Whitney test confirmed a statistically significant difference between both groups post-intervention (p=0.009<0.05). The experimental group achieved an average normalized gain (N-gain) of 0.7465 (high category), with an effect size of 0.39 (medium category). Consequently, the gamification-based ZEP Quiz platform is empirically proven effective in augmenting basic German reading comprehension skills.
