Bawean Island is an archipelagic region that has historically played an important role in the Islamization process in Gresik Regency, East Java. Its strategic geographical location on the Java Sea trade route made Bawean Island a space for interaction between the local community and Muslim traders and scholars from various regions. This study aims to analyze the role of Bawean Island as a center of Islamization and the factors that supported the spread of Islam in the area. The research method used is a literature study by examining various written sources, such as history books, journal articles, archives, and previous research relevant to the topic of Islamization in Bawean Island and Gresik Regency. The findings indicate that the Islamization process in Bawean Island took place peacefully through trade routes, the teachings of scholars, and the strengthening of religious institutions such as Islamic boarding schools and mosques. In addition, the integration of Islamic teachings with local culture has also shaped the moderate and sustainable Islamic character of the Bawean community.
