ABSTRACT
Environmental cleanliness is an essential aspect of human life closely related to health, comfort, and quality of life. In Islam, the concept of thaharah (purification) is not limited to physical cleanliness and ritual worship but also embodies ecological values that promote environmental sustainability. However, studies examining thaharah as a foundation for Islamic environmental ethics relevant to contemporary ecological challenges remain limited. This article aims to analyze the implementation of the concept of thaharah as a basis for environmental ethics grounded in Islamic values. This study employs a literature review method with a descriptive-analytical approach by examining sources from the Qur’an, Hadith, and relevant scholarly articles using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that thaharah possesses a strong ecological dimension, reflected in waste management practices, water conservation, pollution prevention, and the cultivation of clean and healthy lifestyles. The study further demonstrates that thaharah can serve as a framework for Islamic ecological ethics that integrates spiritual values with environmental responsibility in modern life. Therefore, the implementation of thaharah extends beyond ritual observance and contributes to fostering environmentally responsible behavior and supporting sustainable community development.
ABSTRAK
Kebersihan lingkungan merupakan aspek penting yang berkaitan dengan kesehatan, kenyamanan, dan kualitas hidup manusia. Dalam Islam, konsep thaharah (bersuci) tidak hanya berorientasi pada kebersihan fisik dan ritual ibadah, tetapi juga mengandung nilai ekologis dalam menjaga kelestarian lingkungan. Namun, kajian yang mengkaji thaharah sebagai landasan etika lingkungan Islam yang relevan dengan tantangan ekologis modern masih terbatas. Artikel ini bertujuan menganalisis implementasi konsep thaharah sebagai dasar etika lingkungan berbasis nilai-nilai Islam. Penelitian menggunakan metode studi literatur dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis melalui pengumpulan sumber dari Al-Qur’an, Hadis, dan artikel ilmiah relevan yang dianalisis menggunakan teknik content analysis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa thaharah memiliki dimensi ekologis yang tercermin dalam pengelolaan sampah, konservasi air, pencegahan pencemaran, serta pembentukan budaya hidup bersih dan sehat. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa thaharah dapat diposisikan sebagai kerangka etika ekologis Islam yang mengintegrasikan nilai spiritual dengan tanggung jawab lingkungan dalam kehidupan modern. Dengan demikian, implementasi thaharah tidak hanya bernilai ritual, tetapi juga berperan dalam membangun perilaku peduli lingkungan dan mendukung keberlanjutan kehidupan masyarakat.
