Abstract

Collaboration and problem-solving skills need to be developed from the primary school level, particularly in non-urban schools that still face limitations in implementing active, contextual, and student-centered learning. This study aims to explore the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in improving the collaboration and problem-solving skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Lelong. It also addresses a gap in PjBL research in non-urban primary schools, as previous studies have mostly focused on cognitive learning outcomes or have been conducted in schools with more adequate resources. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants consisted of one teacher and 25 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observations of project activities, documentation of student products, and in-depth interviews. The instruments included observation sheets, interview guidelines, and a project assessment rubric covering collaboration indicators, namely role distribution, communication, and deliberation, as well as problem-solving indicators, namely problem identification, development of alternative solutions, and reflection. The findings showed that the thematic waste management project improved students’ collaboration and problem-solving skills to a good category. Students demonstrated better abilities in distributing roles, communicating, deliberating, identifying problems, developing alternative solutions, and conducting group reflection. The unique contribution of this study lies in developing a locally grounded PjBL practice that focuses not only on the final product, but also on collaboration, deliberation, and solution development for real-life problems in students’ immediate environment. Theoretically, this study extends the literature on PjBL implementation in non-urban primary school contexts. Practically, the findings may serve as a reference for teachers in designing contextual projects that support the development of the Pancasila Student Profile.

ABSTRAK

Keterampilan kolaborasi dan pemecahan masalah perlu dikembangkan sejak sekolah dasar, terutama di sekolah non-perkotaan yang masih menghadapi keterbatasan dalam penerapan pembelajaran aktif, kontekstual, dan berpusat pada siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi implementasi Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek atau Project-Based Learning (PjBL) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan kolaborasi dan pemecahan masalah siswa kelas V SDN 2 Lelong. Penelitian ini juga mengisi kekosongan kajian tentang praktik PjBL di sekolah dasar non-perkotaan, karena sebagian besar studi sebelumnya lebih banyak menyoroti hasil belajar kognitif atau dilakukan pada sekolah dengan dukungan sumber daya yang lebih memadai. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas 1 guru dan 25 siswa kelas V. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi aktivitas proyek, dokumentasi produk siswa, dan wawancara mendalam. Instrumen penelitian meliputi lembar observasi, panduan wawancara, dan rubrik penilaian proyek dengan indikator kolaborasi, yaitu pembagian peran, komunikasi, dan musyawarah, serta indikator pemecahan masalah, yaitu identifikasi masalah, penyusunan alternatif solusi, dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proyek tematik pengelolaan sampah mampu meningkatkan kualitas kolaborasi dan pemecahan masalah siswa hingga mencapai kategori baik. Siswa menunjukkan kemampuan yang lebih baik dalam membagi peran, berkomunikasi, bermusyawarah, mengidentifikasi masalah, menyusun alternatif solusi, dan melakukan refleksi kelompok. Kontribusi unik penelitian ini terletak pada pengembangan praktik PjBL berbasis isu lokal yang tidak hanya berorientasi pada produk akhir, tetapi juga menekankan proses kerja sama, musyawarah, dan penyusunan solusi terhadap masalah nyata di lingkungan siswa. Secara teoretis, penelitian ini memperluas kajian PjBL pada konteks sekolah dasar non-perkotaan. Secara praktis, temuan ini dapat menjadi rujukan bagi guru dalam merancang proyek kontekstual yang mendukung penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila.
