Abstract

Childhood stunting triggers profound psychological burdens for families, frequently manifesting as chronic parenting stress within vulnerable socio-ecological environments. This study aims to explore in depth the dynamics of parenting stress and the multifaceted role of social support in facilitating a state of flourishing among parents of children with stunting. This research utilizes a qualitative approach with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to comprehensively capture the essence of the participants' lived experiences. The participants in this study were three mothers raising toddlers diagnosed with stunting in the coastal area of Jeruksari Village, Pekalongan. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and structured observations, with credibility ensured through source triangulation involving village midwives and local health volunteers. The results indicate that social stigma and future anxieties provoke severe parenting stress, yet the presence of emotional, instrumental, informational, and appraisal support effectively regulates these psychological pressures. Integrated social support acts as a crucial catalyst transforming caregiving perceptions from vulnerability toward positive acceptance, meaningfulness, and optimal adaptive functioning. These findings highlight the urgency of integrating psychosocial interventions alongside nutritional programs.
