ABSTRACT
This study aims to determine and analyze the perceptions of high school students towards the importance of law in everyday life. Law is a set of rules that regulate human behavior in society and plays an important role in maintaining order, justice, and protection of individual rights. However, students' understanding and awareness of the existence and role of law in everyday life is often limited. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, where data was collected through direct interviews with a number of students from various grade levels in one high school. The results showed that most students have a basic understanding of the law, especially those related to prohibitions and sanctions, but have not fully understood the function of the law as a whole in shaping a fair and orderly social order. Students tend to see the law as something repressive rather than preventive, and many still view the law as a matter for law enforcement officials only. Factors that influence student perceptions include family background, social media, school environment, and teaching methods in Pancasila and Civics Education (PPKn) subjects. This finding indicates the need for a more contextual and applicable learning approach in delivering legal material so that students are able to relate the importance of law to their daily life experiences. By increasing understanding and awareness of the law from an early age, it is hoped that the younger generation can grow into law-abiding citizens and contribute actively in creating a fair and orderly society.
