Abstract

ABSTRACT

Listening skills among young children at TK Pembina Negeri Singkut, Sarolangun Regency, were found to be underdeveloped, as indicated by difficulties in maintaining attention, understanding stories, answering questions, and retelling information they had heard. This study aimed to determine the effect of using mini shadow puppet media on the listening skills of children aged 5–6 years. The study employed a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 15 children selected through saturated sampling. Data were collected using an observation sheet measuring listening skills and analyzed through descriptive statistics and a t-test. The results showed that the mean pretest score of 8.87 increased to 17.73 in the posttest after the implementation of mini shadow puppet media. Hypothesis testing revealed that the calculated t-value (18.220) was higher than the t-table value (2.145), indicating that the hypothesis was accepted. It can be concluded that mini shadow puppet media significantly improves children's listening skills and serves as an effective and engaging learning medium in early childhood education.

Kemampuan menyimak anak usia dini di TK Pembina Negeri Singkut Kabupaten Sarolangun masih belum optimal, ditandai dengan rendahnya kemampuan anak dalam memusatkan perhatian, memahami isi cerita, menjawab pertanyaan, dan menceritakan kembali informasi yang didengar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media mini shadow puppet terhadap kemampuan menyimak anak usia 5–6 tahun. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain Pre-Experimental bentuk One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 15 anak yang dipilih menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh. Data dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi kemampuan menyimak dan dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif serta uji t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor pretest sebesar 8,87 meningkat menjadi 17,73 pada posttest setelah penerapan media mini shadow puppet. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan nilai t hitung sebesar 18,220 lebih besar daripada t tabel 2,145, sehingga hipotesis diterima. Disimpulkan bahwa media mini shadow puppet berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan menyimak anak usia 5–6 tahun dan dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran yang menarik serta efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa anak usia dini.
