ABSTRACT
Intrinsic motivation is an important factor influencing students' engagement in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PESH) learning. However, the absence of empirical evidence regarding the level of intrinsic motivation among eleventh-grade students at SMK Negeri 5 Padang has limited teachers' ability to design learning strategies that align with students' characteristics. This study aimed to describe the level of intrinsic motivation of eleventh-grade students toward PESH learning. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach involving 50 students selected through random sampling from a population of 280 eleventh-grade students. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring five indicators of intrinsic motivation and analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages, which were then classified into motivation categories. The results revealed that the average level of students' intrinsic motivation was 75.8%, categorized as high. All five indicators were also classified as high, including awareness of the importance of physical fitness and health (79%), comfort during learning (77%), self-satisfaction in learning (76%), interest in physical activity and sports (74%), and curiosity and willingness to develop (73%). These findings indicate that students' intrinsic motivation is relatively balanced across all measured indicators and may serve as an empirical basis for teachers to design more engaging, student-centered, and sustainable PESH learning experiences.
