Abstract

Croup and cough (laryngotracheobronchitis) is an upper respiratory tract infection that causes swelling of the larynx and trachea. This condition typically resolves on its own with the use of analgesics or warm steam. However, if the swelling worsens, further treatment is required, including radiological imaging. Generally, the radiographic projections used for patients with clinical croup and cough are cervical upper airway AP (AnteroPosterior) and lateral views. At the Radiology Department of Dr. R. Soetijono General Hospital in Blora, patients with clinical croup and cough are examined using AP (AnteroPosterior) thoracic projections with a cervical view. This study aims to determine the technique and role of cervical thorax imaging in suspected croup and cough cases. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The study subjects include 1 radiology specialist and 3 radiographers. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study revealed that the examination technique used in clinical cases of suspected croup and cough at the Radiology Department of Dr. R. Soetijono General Hospital in Blora is the cervical axial cephalad 15º projection, combining two objects simultaneously. However, this projection has not been able to optimally play a role in diagnosing clinical cases of suspected croup and cough. In conclusion, the use of the AP cervical thoracic projection has not been able to optimally show narrowing in the larynx and trachea regions.

ABSTRAK
Croup and cough (laryngotracheobronchitis) adalah suatu infeksi saluran pernapasan atas yang menyebabkan pembengkakan pada laring dan trakea, penyakit ini biasanya dapat sembuh sendiri dengan penggunaan obat analgetik maupun uap hangat. Namun jika pembengkakan semakin parah maka dibutuhkan penanganan lebih lanjut, salah satunya adalah pemeriksaan penunjang radiologi. Pada umumnya proyeksi radiografi yang digunakan pada pasien dengan klinis croup and cough adalah cervical upper airway AP (AnteroPosterior) dan lateral, sedangkan di Instalasi Radiologi RSUD dr. R. Soetijono Blora pada pasien klinis croup and cough menggunakan proyeksi AP (AnteroPosterior) thorax tampak cervical. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui teknik dan peranan pemeriksaan thorax tampak cervical pada klinis suspect croup and cough. Metode menggunakan kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Subjek penelitian 1 dokter spesialis radiologi, dan 3 radiografer. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa teknik pemeriksaan yang digunakan dalam klinis suspect croup and cough di instalasi radiologi RSUD dr. R. Soetijono Blora adalah proyeksi thorax tampak cervical axial chepalad 15º dengan menggabungkan dua objek secara bersamaan, namun proyeksi tersebut belum mampu secara optimal berperan dalam mendiagnosis klinis suspect croup and cough. Kesimpulannya penggunaan proyeksi thorax AP tampak cervical belum mampu secara optimal untuk memperlihatkan penyempitan pada daerah laring dan trakea.
