Abstract

This study was motivated by the low cognitive learning outcomes in English among fifth-grade students at SDN 008 Tanjung Redeb, Beru Regency, East Kalimantan, which were below the established Learning Achievement Criteria (KKTP). Previous studies have generally focused on conventional animated videos for teaching English in elementary schools or the use of AI technology in other subjects. Therefore, a research gap remains in the development of AI-based animated videos for elementary school English instruction. The novelty of this study lies in the development of AI-based animated video media for the topics of Months, Dates, and National Days for fifth-grade students at SDN 008 Tanjung Redeb, Beru Regency. This study aimed to develop the media, assess its feasibility, and evaluate its effectiveness using the ADDIE model. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design involving fifth-grade students in an experimental class and a control class. The results indicated that: (1) the AI-based animated video media was successfully developed systematically using the ADDIE framework; (2) the developed media was considered highly feasible based on validation by material experts and media experts, as well as a small-group trial; and (3) the media was effective in improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes, with the experimental class showing greater improvement than the control class. In conclusion, the AI-based animated video media was highly feasible and effective for English language learning at SDN 008 Tanjung Redeb, Beru Regency.
